Easter Surprise
Project Overview
Project Details
As part of a design course at my university, I was tasked with creating a poster for a client of my choosing. I chose to create a poster for an upcoming fundraiser my club was hosting.
Design Goals
Create a unique, eye-catching poster, that promoted a recently rebranded club and the Easter fundraiser.
Results
We recieved a lot more potential customers at the fundraiser than at previous events despite being given a poor fundraising location.
Role:
Lead Designer
Timeline:
1 month for all deliverables

Discovery of Design Problem
I originally chose to work with Alternative Faiths and Spiritualities because they had just gone through a rebrand and this fundraiser was also an advertising opportunity. Since I would be getting feedback from my peers who were my target audience, I thought taking them on as a client would give them a better chance at advertising and fundraising.
Design Criteria
This fundraiser would be selling pre-made, and make your own Easter Eggs. The target audience was other college students and while money was a major influence on the fundraiser, the main goal was audience awareness.
-
Create a Spring themed poster to put up two weeks before the fundraising event
-
Club Name (Alternative Faiths and Spiritualites) must be clearly visible.
-
Clearly advertise that this is a fundraising event and the prices of the product.
Design Process
Initial Concepts
I initally played around with a lot of different background concepts as well as font choices. Most of these first drafts were unclear or too busy to understand at a quick glance. At this point my professor also suggested playing around with a simple gradient background instead of a complicated image.
Option 1
For the first round of feedback, I had to present two semi-finalized poster designs. This landscape was the first design I presented and recieved a lot of postitive feedback.

Option 11
This portrait design was simpler, however while I did pull the gradient colors from the eggs, there was a lack of cohesion in the design. This came through in the peer feedback I recieved.
Final Design

After a few tweaks to the Option 1 design, this is the final result. It combined the elements of spring and playfulness while also clearly communicating its message.
Results
This poster was printed around campus after the final round of feedback two weeks before the fundraising event. While that event didn't raise as much as a previous bakesale event, the poster drew in a lot more potential customers.
